May 2015…. It is with great pride that Boy Scout Troop 3 of Ambler announces its 100th Anniversary on May 17, 2015!

Founded in 1915, Troop 3 has been part of Ambler history for the past 100 years. It was initially Troop 2 and met on the 2nd floor of a nearby garage owned by William C. Evans, which was known as “Evans’ Garage.” It then moved to Ambler’s Trinity Episcopal Church in 1920. Trinity became the troop’s official sponsor in 1946 and it still meets there today.

Harry Heckler, Jr, the current Scoutmaster, was a Scout in the troop earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He became Scoutmaster in 2008 following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Leidy B. Heckler, Jr., who was a founding member in the troop 100 years ago! Harry’s son Justin is now a Scout in the Troop keeping the Heckler tradition alive in Troop 3.

Troop 3 is celebrating its Centennial in various ways. In Summer of 2016 the Troop is attending summer camp in Alaska and has been fundraising to this end.

The Troop will also hold a Gala Celebration on Sunday, May 17 at Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland with a fun filled roster of activities such as keynote speaker and VIP guest, Beasley Reese, an Eagle Scout himself, displays of Troop 3 history and a gathering of past Scouts and leaders.
